This unusual Canada goose was seen in a Piscataway, N.J. park with its neck twisted backwards in a peculiar way. The woman who took this video said she saw other geese flying at it, so she called a local bird rescue. The rescue group, The Raptor Trust, tells us this goose is suffering from Wry neck (torticollis). It’s a neurological condition often caused by vitamin E/selenium deficiency. Bird experts are saying they are seeing more of this condition lately in New Jersey. Possible causes could be the harsh winter leaving some resident geese with poor nutrition during those lean months. Sadly, flock birds will often try to drive away (bully) an injured or sick bird because they don’t want to attract predators. It’s a natural survival behavior. Some experts say that it doesn’t mean this goose will die. It could recover but it’s more complicated since the bird has a more difficult time trying to eat.
