As #DonateLifeMonth continues, we want to share Mabel’s story and the life-changing impact of a living donor liver transplant. At one month old, Mabel was diagnosed with biliary atresia – a serious liver disorder that occurs when a baby's bile ducts become blocked - and faced serious complications that required surgery. As her symptoms worsened and hospitalizations became more frequent, the decision was made to list her for a liver transplant. In collaboration with PennMedicine's Center for Living Donations, Mabel's dad became her living donor, donating a portion of his liver to save her life.
