Last week, Deaf (Sorda), directed by Eva Libertad, was named the winner of the 2026
#LUXAudienceAward at the European Parliament Hemicycle in Brussels.
The film follows Ángela, a deaf woman expecting a child with her hearing partner, as she navigates fears around motherhood and communication in a world not built for her. The lead role is played by deaf actress Miriam Garlo, Eva Libertad’s sister, in her feature film debut.
The winner was selected through a joint vote of EU citizens and Members of the European Parliament, each accounting for 50% of the final result.
This year also marked a first for the award: all shortlisted films were made available with subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, reflecting the LUXAudienceAward’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
