CANCER AWARENESS DAY AT S&T SOFTBALL
Fans got to experience a special moment at today’s softball in honor of Cancer Awareness day. Katy Fitzgerald and Paityn Nelson delivered the first pitches of today’s doubleheader against Quincy, two women with incredible stories.
Katy has been battling stage 4 leiomyosarcoma for almost two years, but still regularly shows up to support all three of her children (Joey, Charley, and S&T Softball’s Molly) at their collegiate sporting events. Her daughter Molly calls Katy her greatest inspiration and the rock of their family.
Paityn was diagnosed with dysgerminoma back in June, having a pair of surgeries before beginning treatment. On September 20th, Paityn rang the bell at St.
Luke’s Children’s Cancer Institute, signaling the end of her treatment in front of a host of family and friends. Her sister Taylor calls her the bravest, smartest, and funniest person she has ever met, and wishes more than anything else that Paityn makes the most of every opp...
