This year, stepping into an Interim Assistant Coaching role for Nebraska Gymnastics after the loss of Coach Jim Hartung was something I never could’ve imagined. To be entrusted with that responsibility—and to serve a program that means so much—changed me.
There is no replacing a legend like Jim. I never stepped in expecting to be him, or to be received the way he was. My only hope was to help carry what he built, in whatever way I could, so there wouldn’t be an empty space where so much greatness once lived. To follow in the footsteps of one of my greatest mentors has been the highest honor—and a responsibility I’ve felt every single day.
What I didn’t expect was how much this team would trust me anyway. That trust is something I don’t take lightly, and something I’ll always be grateful for.
