Before it fills a gallery, it fits on a table🧍 This maquette is the work of Brussels-based set designer sabine.theunissen. Theunissen is a longtime collaborator of South African artist William Kentridge, whose nuanced explorations of colonialism, war, science, and literature have made him one of the most powerful voices in contemporary art. On view now, “Memory and Matter: Personal and Collective Histories” (part of “Reimagined: The Fisher Collection at 10”) brings together nearly a dozen of Kentridge’s works, spanning stop-motion animated films, multimedia theatrical installations, and optically complex projections. Theunissen draws on her deep background in set design and architecture to shape the immersive environments that hold it all together, transforming space itself into part of the story.
