This Earth Day, we look back to IDS 2026 and the BID Design Justice Charrette presented in partnership with ARIDO, inspired_learninglab and ojiibik at the ARIDO booth. ARIDO Interior Design students, with the help of their Intern mentors, took on a powerful challenge: designing with both the planet and people in mind.
Through a focused charrette, they explored how marginalized communities are disproportionately impacted by environmental issues - from poor air quality to limited access to green space - and reimagined how design can be part of the solution.
Their installations went beyond aesthetics:
✨ Interactive experiences that educate and engage the public on climate inequity
✨ Proposed solutions that prioritize healthy materials, improved air and water quality
✨ Sustainable and resourceful material usage, and thoughtful material choices sourced from IDS exhibitors and from our supporting sponsors, each telling a deeper story of origin, reuse, and justice
