Grief is like a long trail - some days are harder than others and people navigate things differently, at their own pace, in their own way. venturingbsa member Alexis M. used the “trek” of her Eagle Scout service project to navigate the loss of her father (a usarmy colonel who served four tours in the Iraq War and was awarded two Bronze Stars). The result is a magnificent granite monument that serves as a memorial devoted to Gold Star families (those who have lost an immediate family member during their active duty).  While her grief is not gone, Alexis now sees that her completed project - a two-year endeavor with a price tag upwards of $120,000 - now serves as a place for so many families (like hers) to grieve, reflect and pay respects.
