Hundreds of students poured out of Central Catholic High School on Friday morning to protest the way that their school and the Portland Archdiocese have handled a racist incident involving the school’s baseball team. Student spokespeople for the walkout, which was organized by the Black Student Union at the 800-student high school, presented a list of demands, including for suspension of the Southeast Portland private school’s baseball coaching staff until they have undergone training, a partial prohibition on varsity baseball players being allowed to continue their season and changes to the school’s anti-racist policies, informed by student input.
