1700s ARTIFACT! This cooper cooking pot was found at the site of a Revolutionary War shipwreck! It was recovered from the 1782 Storm Wreck by the Lighthouse Maritime Archaeologists off the coast of St. Augustine! As part of a set of nested cauldrons, this pot was the smallest and therefore located in the center. Because of its location, it was the best preserved. Sometimes, like footprints preserved in rock, conditions can be just right and a little something from the previous owner is left behind. The conservators found a thumbprint close to one of the handles on this pot!
