Beaches the Musical on Broadway! If you’re also a child of the 80s and 90s when you hear the name “Beaches” your eyes most likely well up in tears. Or you start belting the 1988 Bette Midler song “Wind Beneath My Wings”. As nostalgia is currently going wild everywhere, it’s no surprise beachesthemusical opened today after weeks of packed previews and acclaimed reviews. Similar but different to the movie, and reimagined with a whole new soundtrack and score, it was lovely to watch our beloved brash Jersey girl and her prissy precocious new best friend meet on the Atlantic City boardwalk, become penpals, and then share the trials and tribulations of growing up together with miles in between. It was especially nice to remember a time pre-internet when it was the most exciting thing in the word to see a physical letter in the mail arrive from someone you desperately missed.
