The microscopy method, developed by a kirinyaga_university and cambridgeuniversity team, combines polarized light with a magnetic field to spot malaria under a microscope.
The magnetic field causes malaria-related hemozoin crystals to rotate and align in a preferred direction, changing how they interact with polarized light and producing measurable shifts in image intensity and contrast.
The label-free technique could lead to earlier detection, better treatment decisions and ultimately better health outcomes.
