In this retelling of The Doolittle Raid, America's first air operation in response to Pearl Harbor, The Ruptured Duck, captained by Ted Lawson (Van Johnson) arrives over Tokyo to find some targets already burning, and attacks its targets as planned. As the crew continues toward China, they run low on fuel approaching the coast in darkness and heavy rain. Lawson attempts a belly landing on the beach and crashes in the surf.
