“Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches.” -Psalm 104:12 A branch to rest on, and a song to sing. Rest is often overlooked, a simple branch forgotten, and yet it is exactly where it needs to be. A place to rest, with a song to sing. The birds do not make the branch they rest upon, nor the forest they call home, and yet they dwell, they rest, and sing. They express their gratitude for their habitation, the streams which refresh them. In their own ways, they sing in their songs, the praises of their Maker and Preserver. We are always searching, striving, trying in vain to build something stable enough to rest in. Looking for a security we can control. We look to human wisdom for solutions, but what is broken cannot fix another broken thing. If these little choristers of the air praise so, how ought Christians, who have so many comforts and conveniences in this world, and a cup overflowing with the water of eternal life, to blush.
