When you think of something firm, set, unmoving, and unchanging, a mountain comes to mind. Mountains do not get up and move, they do not suddenly change form, in fact they’ve stood for eons. There is a sense of permanence, something strong and dependable, something we are inclined to trust. And yet that is not entirely true. What appears unshakable is still part of this earthly world, still subject to impermanence. All creation can be moved, changed, and removed. Water erodes, fires rage, avalanches crash, lightning rends, drought withers. What we often see as secure is not as firm as it seems.
Oh what hope is there then? Is it all in vain? Is there naught to do, naught to save? No! There is one thing that does not shift: the steadfast love of the LORD! God does not change, eve...
