There is growing concern about the long-term environmental and health impacts of some "forever chemicals" which appear in everyday products like school uniforms and non-stick pans. The group of chemicals, called PFAS, are used to make products stain and water resistant but some are proven to be toxic and carcinogenic, increasing the risk of kidney cancer and raising cholesterol. Some UK MPs have called for a complete ban on their use unless manufacturers can demonstrate they are either essential or there is no alternative chemical.
