STORY TIME
During my undergrad I took a huge leap of faith and decided to move to France temporarily. On arrival, I realized that the apartment I had paid for was nowhere near what was advertised. So I respectfully packed my bags and hopped from Airbnb to Airbnb for almost a month.
During orientation at the school I enrolled in, I realized French was the only language that was going to be spoken (and as promised that’s all the lecturer spoke the whole semester). For someone who could barely introduce themselves in French that was no good news.
On weekends during my stay in France I would book a train to random cities and nearby countries just to explore.
As frustrating as my experience was there was something freeing about being able to encounter hurdles alone in a foreign country and repeatedly finding a way out. Something freeing about watching strangers speak to you in a different language and understanding nothing but recognizing the kindness in their eyes and voice.
