One of the biggest misconceptions about sprinting: it’s all linear. This couldn’t be further from the truth—as a matter of fact, your body needs to express rotation, undulation and flexion/extension in order to be successful in a sprint. Oftentimes, when your body CAN’T express these different movement patterns there are compensations and inefficiencies in your sprinting. The spinal engine theory is the idea that your spine is the primary engine of movement rather than just a supporting structure. Understanding the role of the spine and pelvis in movement is crucial to taking your coaching a step further to be more effective and to understand the true limitations and needs of the athletes in front of you. These drills are simple and effective ways to bring awareness to the spine and build on coordination patterns that should be expressed in sprinting. #fastfeetfriday #sprinting #spinalengine #speedcoach
