Carbon Fiber Fender - “Nick started by bending up the sheet metal for the fender, using a donated wheel as a reference. Once I got the bent sheet metal from him, I went ahead and prepped the surface and filled in all the gaps. From there, I laid down unidirectional carbon fiber, carefully positioning it along the sides. Since I didn’t have any V-twill fabric on hand, I improvised by cutting 0° and 90° plies to create that signature V-pattern on the face sheet. After getting everything laid up, I set it up for a VARTM infusion process. Once it cured, I pulled the part from the mold, trimmed it up, and handed both the mold and the finished part back to Nick” - A quick demonstration from one of our Advanced Composites & Technologies instructors showing how it’s done!
