A New Jersey councilwoman is refusing to apologize after suggesting the town should hire a Mexican landscaping firm because “Mexicans know what to do with grass.” The comments by Willingboro councilwoman Rebecca Perrone sparked outrage. At a recent meeting, the town’s mayor read a statement saying Perrone’s comments did not reflect the council’s views, but Perrone rejected calls from the public comment to apologize. “To say somebody does something great and you take it to (mean) something offensive, there must be something wrong with that individual,” said Perrone, who noted she is Guatemalan and Puerto Rican. “This is not an apology.
