Following wildlife biologists Sara Weaver (bat_girl80) and Dr. Sarah Fritts, the film explores their deep friendship and shared mission to protect bat populations in Texas. Often feared and stigmatized, bats play a vital ecological role, from controlling insect populations to supporting agriculture. They also face growing threats from habitat loss, wind turbines, and widespread misunderstanding. “Directing Batsies gave me the freedom to create something visceral and unexpected. Through Sara and Sarah’s work and friendship, we wanted to show that inspiring care sometimes means telling stories differently.
