Indigenous tribe of Panama – The Embera One of the most unforgettable parts of my Panama trip was spending time with the Embera tribe — an Indigenous community living deep in the rainforest. Just a day trip from Panama City, we reached their village by canoe, gliding through calm rivers and lush jungle. From the moment we stepped ashore, we were greeted with warm smiles, music, and traditional dance that immediately made us feel like part of their world. The Embera live simply, in harmony with nature, in homes built from wood and palm leaves. Tourism plays a big part in their livelihood today. They open their homes and hearts to visitors as a way to share their culture and sustain their way of life. I got to try their jagua tattoo — a natural ink made from fruit, traditionally worn for beauty, symbolic meaning, and even as mosquito protection.
