Firstly Uber is safe in Mexico for the same reason it is safe in the Canada or US. However there is an ongoing conflict between local taxi drivers and Uber drivers in major cities like Cancun where things can go risky for the tourists as well. . Why is it unsafe in Cancun or Riviera Maya? - In Jan 2023, courts in Cancun granted orders to allow Uber to operate however there is a strong reluctance from the local taxi drivers objecting it. - The taxicabs are a syndicate and they pretty much behave like a mob who wants to control the Cancun’s tourism transportation. - So Uber drivers are very much scared to accept rides from the touristy places or from the hotels/restaurants etc. .
