Facts of the Skateway: 1. It is a UNESCO world heritage site located in the heart of Ottawa over a total length of 7.8 km 2. The skateway first opened in the year of 1970-71 and ever since then the skating rink has been opened every year for more than 50 years until 2023. 3. In 2023, for the very first time in history,the rink was not opened due to lack of ice. 4. Starting from mid-October , @parks.canada drains out the canal water and then works on making the ice by flooding water periodically and letting it freeze on its own. 5. The rink is opened usually Jan-Feb when @parks.canada could make about 30cm depth of good quality ice, for which a min of -10C to -20C is needed for a consecutive of atleast 10-14 days. .
