This is me. And this is Aliza. Captured enjoying our last few solo days before the world went into a panorama shutdown. I felt confident within my first couple of months of maternity leave. I was legitimately enjoying the alone time with Aliza, especially because my first maternity leave didn’t start off the way I had hoped for. Suddenly, with everything that crumbled externally in the world, I felt the internal breakdown at 3 months post-partum. The world didn’t make sense anymore. This second maternity leave took a serious turn. I felt like I lost control. I felt like a disappointment to my toddler at the time. I didn’t feel like me anymore. What I had hoped to be a “positive” post-partum experience quickly spiralled down a dark hole. I didn’t have a village. And I felt like I failed in so many ways.
