We bought a laundromat 2 years ago knowing absolutely nothing about how laundromats work. These are the things we’ve learned:
• It’s not a passive business! It doesn’t need full-time attention, but there are a lot of things that need regular maintenance. You need to collect coins, re-fill vending machines, fix washers/dryers, clean, and be available for any issues that might pop up
• You need to be pretty handy — Jon fixes all the machines himself when they break (the previous owner and YouTube taught him). Or, find a good repair person ahead of time!
• Not all laundromats make a profit right away. But if you make improvements and focus on good marketing, you’ll definitely see profits slowly increase over time!
• When you’re making improvements to your space, cleanliness, safety, lighting are the three most important things. Laundromats are public spaces and get dirty SO quickly. They need to be cleaned daily for a safe, clean space! For safety, a lot of laundromats don’t have a...
