A recent study showcases the success of the Fixel PRISM model — a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to treating GI symptoms in Parkinson’s disease (PD).
PRISM (Parkinson’s Research and Integrated Support Model) brings together movement disorder specialists, neurogastroenterologists, dietitians, speech/swallow therapists, occupational therapists, and neuroscientists to deliver personalized, biomarker-driven care.
Among the 44 PD patients treated, 97% had constipation, 61% dysphagia, and 34% reflux — yet PRISM led to significant improvements in symptom severity and quality of life.
This marks a major step in treating the often-overlooked gut-brain complications of PD.
