This Black History Month, we honor Dr. Charles Drew, a pioneering surgeon and researcher whose work revolutionized blood transfusions. His discovery that plasma could be stored separately from blood saved thousands of lives in WWII and laid the foundation for modern blood banks. As the first Black American to earn a medical doctorate from Columbia, Drew also trained and mentored a generation of Black surgeons.
