📚New research in The Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation reveals that low health literacy is common among individuals with moderate to severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Using the Health Literacy Assessment with Talking Touchscreen Technology, the study found that 31% of 205 surveyed individuals had marginal or inadequate health literacy.
This is crucial because low health literacy can greatly impact a TBI patient's ability to manage their health and follow medical advice.
To improve health literacy in TBI patients, researchers recommend tailored communication strategies such as providing frequent reminders, involving care partners in medical discussions, and using preferred formats for health information.
