Many experienced clinicians are now believing that the once widely accepted diagnostic guidelines for Tourette’s and other tic disorders do not fully capture the complexities or the neurobiological basis of these conditions. The future direction suggested in this paper is to update the diagnostic criteria to a single category called "primary persistent tic disorder."
