Jaw Clonus, involuntary and rhythmic jaw contractions, can often be confused with tremors when triggered without a stretch. Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases' Rohini Kumar, Jamie Blackband and Aparna Wagle Shukla, M.D., analyze the differences between the two in a video abstract recently published in the Journal Tremor and Other Hyperkinetic Disorders. The video shows a patient at rest with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with rhythmic jaw movements. The analysis revealed a 10 Hz peak, a frequency higher than those seen in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), essential tremor, myorhythmia and tardive syndromes.
