Most people don't realize how often they apologize. It's almost automatic: "I'm sorry for taking your time." "I'm sorry I feel this way." "I'm sorry for asking…" For many, this pattern didn't come out of nowhere. It was learned in environments where being "easy," agreeable, or undemanding felt like the only way to stay connected. So the nervous system adapted. But there's a cost to that. Because when apology becomes automatic, it slowly reinforces the idea that your presence… your needs… your feelings… require permission. And they don't. There's a subtle shift that can change everything. Replace apology with honesty. Replace shrinking your emotions with clarity. Replace "sorry" with "thank you." Not perfectly. Not all at once. But consciously. Where does "I'm sorry" show up for you...even when nothing is actually wrong? #drlauraberman #emotionalawareness #personaldevelopment
