Today is Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (#FOP) Awareness Day – marking 20 years since researchers identified the gene responsible for this rare condition, where muscles, ligaments, and tendons gradually turn to bone. In honor of this day, we recognize everyone living with FOP including AJ. 💙 AJ was diagnosed with FOP in 2012 by our genetics team in collaboration with PennMedicine. After a fall at age 5, his condition rapidly progressed. In 2024, he underwent groundbreaking scoliosis surgery and is doing well on a promising new treatment made possible through a clinical trial. AJ loves sled hockey, sports, collecting trading cards, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his sisters!
