🌊 Image of the week: Marine Algae Blooms
This image, captured by
#Copernicus Sentinel-3 on 27 April, shows phytoplankton patches alongside sediment plumes.
Phytoplankton are microscopic marine algae that form the basis of marine food chains, and also produce over half of the world’s oxygen, absorbing large amounts of CO₂ during photosynthesis.
This image uses a new enhanced RGB product designed to distinguish ocean colour features like phytoplankton blooms, as well as atmospheric phenomena such as dust and smoke - available on EUMETView.
