Due to the shifts in the cultural and political arenas, the late 1970’s/early 1980’s was a thriving time for the Latino community in the Northeast region of the United States. Activism on college campuses was common ground. Rutgers College opened its doors to women. As the campus’ Latino population increased, it became evident that the quality of student life for Latinos was not equal to their White and Black counterparts. Furthermore, the funding for Latino groups and activities was also non-existent. Realizing a change needed to be made, Corazones Unidos Siempre/Chi Upsilon Sigma Sorority, Inc. ® emerged.
