Ray Hartmann, a 1974 Missouri School of Journalism graduate with a professional journalism career that spanned nearly five decades, passed away at 73 on Thursday. He is the only Editor-in-Chief of Mizzou’s student newspaper, The Maneater, to serve two consecutive full terms. Dan Viets, a friend of Ray’s and the 1972-1973 Missouri Students Association president, oversaw the student publications board, a committee that elected Ray as The Maneater’s Editor-in-Chief. “I absolutely wanted to see him have that opportunity (to be Editor-in-Chief), so I made sure that the people appointed to that board would likewise support (him),” Viets said. “I think everyone respected and appreciated the great work Ray was doing as editor of the student paper. He was a very strong and independent voice.” Read more at the link in our bio.
