A famous Lubbock barbecue stop, Stubbs, was located on East Broadway and closed in 1985, Stubblefield’s story has resurfaced with recognition from Southwest Collections because of the impact he had on the Lubbock community. Opened and operated by Christopher B. Stubblefield in 1968, his passion for music and good food brought folks from all around to his barbecue restaurant. Texas Tech’s Southwest Collections Library created an exhibit on April 8 for Stubblefield to showcase the impact he had on music and community in Lubbock during the 60s and 70s. A Stubblefield memorial was built in 1999 where the restaurant used to stand, on 108 East Broadway.
