In 1993 WWE asked Terry Funk to wear a blue mask and play one of Jerry Lawler’s knights at Survivor Series, where he would be defeated and unmasked by Bret Hart. Funk wanted no part of it. He left a note at the hotel telling Vince McMahon his horse was sick and fled to the airport back to Texas. It was not even the first time he used that excuse. He had quit the WWF in 1986 the same way.
