Officers tried to verbally subdue the woman, who was still holding a knife. The woman then went toward a person who was standing on the sidewalk outside a nearby building, and officers fired less-lethal rounds, to no avail. When less-lethal rounds did not work, Phoenix Police said officers fired shots at the woman, who was injured and hospitalized in custody with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
