Iowa will direct $25 million to Central Iowa Water Works to upgrade its nitrate removal facilities as part of a statewide overhaul of Iowa's water quality funding. The funding package will also boost water quality monitoring by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, increase funding for wastewater and drinking water treatment grant programs and create a low-interest loan program for rural communities statewide seeking to upgrade their facilities. The expansion at Central Iowa Water Works seeks to avoid a repeat of last year's unprecedented lawn-watering ban that affected the authority's more than 600,000 customers.
