April 23rd is World Book Day! It is a day to encourage reading of all ages. For today, Jared letterpress printed a large halftone from the California Office of State Printing’s press room in 1914. These presses were previously used for printing publication work for the State of California, especially books. This was printed with orange oil base ink using our Washington hand press. Halftones were used to introduce photography in newspapers and books starting in the late 1880s. The pictures in halftones are broken into a series of equally spaced dots of varying size. #SacHistoryMuseum #worldbookday #booktok #museum #printing
