Freedom Day feels different when you grew up in the rural areas of South Africa.🤷🏼‍♀️🫶🏼 You learn early that freedom is not only about what is legally possible. It is also about what you believe you are worthy enough to reach for. I have gone from small rural spaces to travelling the world, and one thing has stayed with me: No matter how big the opportunity in front of us is, if we do not believe we are worth it, we will struggle to take the chance. Because life can become a constant fight against poverty, not only financial poverty, but poverty of resources, love, respect, equality, dignity, and opportunity. And yet, at the heart of our Constitution is something deeply human: Our worth. Our dignity. Our humanity. Ubuntu says: I am because we are.
