Before it was Gahanna, a hearty rivalry divided two towns ➡️ This photo shows Mill Street around 1915, looking north, with the old Mifflin Inn visible on the right. Built in 1853, the inn was popular with stagecoach travelers and mail coaches. A few years prior, Gahanna was just getting started. John Clark laid out his lots in 1849, along what is now Granville Street. The settlement became known as Gahanna. Jesse Baughman established a neighboring town a few years later, calling it Bridgeport. It had Mill, Town, High, and Walnut streets, but Clark’s Granville Street drew a line between the towns. They had an intense rivalry, but eventually merged in 1881. A group of 55 residents successfully petitioned to incorporate the Village of Gahanna (since another Bridgeport already existed). #ThenAndNow #Gahanna #GahannaHistory
