The song was inspired by a real-life experience at a basement party where Alessia felt so out of place that she eventually called her mom to come pick her up. She famously recalled the night as “sweaty” and uncomfortable, saying, “I just didn’t belong.”
Musically, the song is a moody blend of pop and R&B built around a legendary Isaac Hayes sample. While her label originally wanted her to release a more typical, “radio-friendly” track, Alessia fought for ‘Here’ because she knew it was the only way to truly show the world who she was as an artist.
