HBCU Updates: North Carolina HBCU , Saint Augustine’s University, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as part of a strategic move to address its financial challenges. Chapter 11 allows the university to reorganize its debt while continuing operations under court supervision.
📍University officials say the decision was made by the Board of Trustees to support long-term sustainability while managing current financial realities.
According to court documents, the university estimates assets between $100 million and $500 million, while owing between $50 million and $100 million to creditors — including over $14 million to the IRS.
While the university remains operational and accredited for the current semester, officials confirmed they will not continue litigation related to accreditation beyond May 15.
