Through her dedicated advocacy, she helped baby Esperanza navigate severe medical challenges, transition out of the NICU, and find stability in a new home. In court, the Judge told Melanie, "In Spanish, the name 'Esperanza' means 'hope,' and that is the gift you have given this child." Esperanza is just one of more than 8,500 children living in foster care in San Diego and Riverside Counties.
