Vanessa entered foster care when she was only 8 years old due to domestic violence in the home. In the blink of an eye, Vanessa was separated from her mom, her home, and, most importantly, her brother, Christopher. Being placed into the foster care system was a highly traumatic experience for 8-year-old Vanessa, causing feelings of abandonment, loss of control, fear, and mistrust. As Vanessa faced countless challenges, she was assigned a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Laura. CASA Laura advocated for her and Christopher, getting to know them both as individuals to meet their different needs while bringing them together.
