A child and CASA don’t always form an instant bond. But that’s the special thing about CASAs: they keep showing up, no matter what. When CASA Brad was first assigned to 9-year-old “Leo’s” case, he had a tough time connecting with the boy, which only became more difficult after COVID-19 restrictions went into place. However, CASA Brad persisted, and soon, the two were bonding over virtual games of Connect 4. With each passing visit, Leo became more open and trusting.
Leo has had an especially hard year. His mother didn’t visit him for the entire year, and her parental rights were recently terminated. CASA Brad has been there for Leo as he grieves this loss and made it clear to Leo that he will always be there for him.
