For National #Reunification Month, we’re sharing a story about how one CASA played a crucial role in bringing a family back together. In March 2019, CASA Allison was assigned to siblings “Liam” and “Sadie, who entered foster care amid concerns about abuse, neglect, and ongoing homelessness. Allison learned that the children had never before attended school. She knew that getting Liam and Sadie set up academically, as well as addressing the trauma they’d experienced, were top priorities. First, Allison developed a rapport with the children’s caregiver, who was a relative. This relationship ensured open communication and smooth scheduling of her monthly CASA visits. Allison also stayed in close contact with the children’s therapists. When one round of services was set to conclude, Allison talked to the team to determine the need for future support.
