European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said the main focus of the European Political Community meeting in Yerevan was an 'independent Europe'.⁣ ⁣ The EPC includes around 50 EU and non-EU countries - EU member states, the UK, Ukraine and Western Balkan states and is widely seen as the 'brainchild' of France's Emmanuel Macron.⁣ ⁣ Von der Leyen said: “We have to reduce our over dependencies in three areas. The first is energy. We are too much overdependent on imported fossil fuels and therefore always dependent on volatile global markets. ⁣ ⁣ “We have to increase our assets at home in Europe, and these are the renewable energies and nuclear energy.
